Waiting with Bated Breath for "Trouble with Twelfth Grave" by Darynda Jones

I can't believe I have to wait until October 31st for Darynda's latest Charlie Davidson story to come out. I have been reading and re-reading the first 11 books in the series, they are that great.

So to catch you up and prepare you for this latest book.

Charlie Davidson is a PI in New Mexico, but that is her part time job. Her full time job is the Grimm Reaper, but that won't pay her bills. Her uncle Bob is with the local PD, and he hires her to consult on cases because as the Grimm Reaper, the dead come to her for closure before crossing to the other side. So she can help him nail the killers with help from the recently departed.

She has been the Grimm Reaper since she was born. In fact her first reap, was her own mother who died giving birth to her. The dead can see her from anywhere in the world her light as a portal to heaven is so bright. They pass through her to get to the other side and she gets a glimpse at their lives as they cross. It's amazing and wearing at the same time for her.

She has a really fabulous friend, Cookie, who is her right hand gal keeping her office running. They also live across the hall from each other and Cookie's daughter looks up to Charlie, though Charlie has no idea why.

Charlie is fun, snarky, a bit crazy and overall one of the most interesting characters ever written. I feel like she is an old friend who I just haven't seen in a while. Each new book is like getting to have a visit and view into her life.

And don't even get me started on the men in her life. Her Father started to recognize her gift to speak to the dead when she was very young and she helped solve a child abduction/murder case when she was 4. From then on he would have an edge on cases no one else had because of her help. When he retired his brother, her uncle Bob took over. One of the people who is near her much of the time and helps her out with investigations is actually a dead kid/teen named Angel who has a typical young boys crush on her and holds his own in the snark department.

But the most important is the Man who both scares her and has her heart, Reyes Farrow. She thought of him as the Big Bad for years because he would appear out of smoke and save her life when she was in danger. Then she finds out he is also a supernatural being in a human form who is wrongfully accused of murder and she fights to help him.

Through the series you see their tumultuous relationship grow and blossom. They are married and have a child that is extra special because of her parentage. They have to send her away to protect her and this causes Charlie to lose herself for a while. But with time and help from her friends  she finds her way back to them.

This basically glosses over the 11 books and gives you an idea of where Charlie, Reyes and their friends are when book 12 starts. And it's going to start with a whopper of a problem for Charlie as she has lost Reyes to his Supernatural and very evil side. She is really up against a wall this time and has no clue how to get her husband back to her and save him before he does something she will have to destroy him for to save their own daughter.

Honestly, the tension at the end of book 11 was so high I have been dying for this next book to see what happens.

So "The Trouble with Twelfth Grave" by Darynda Jones comes out October 31st! Go order your copy today! And if you haven't before, start reading the first 11 books to get ready for number 12! Enjoy the ride!!!
