Lorna Barrett's Booktown Mysteries, Book 3, "Bookplate Special"

Angelica Miles, Tricia's sister has opened a small café, Booked for Lunch, to go along with her other business, the Cookery Bookstore. And Tricia is busy as usual at Haven't Got a Clue, her mystery bookstore. Tricia has an unexpected houseguest who has overstayed her welcome and Tricia's good graces when Tricia discovers this friend has stolen from her by forging a check from Tricia's checkbook. Pammy had been Tricia's former college roommate and has never amounted to much. Tricia has packed her bags and gives Pammy her request to leave the moment she gets done in the bathroom.

So later that same day when she finds Pammy dead in the garbage bin behind her sister's Café she feels guilt over having kicked her out even if she did have a good reason. So now she is investigating what happened to her friend and why was she so desperate to talk to Mr. Paige at the opening dedication of the Pantry Shelf, a charity store that helps those down on their luck to have food to keep going.

What she finds while investigating is disturbing, like her friend was joining up with local Freegans, who dumpster dive for food to salvage and eat. Thinking back on the meals Pammy cooked for her, she realizes they had been made with food Pammy had gotten in this way, and she feels kind of sick thinking about it. But even worse, she was supposedly using something she found to blackmail someone, possibly Mr. Paige.

Tricia is shot at and getting calls demanding the return of a diary. Though what diary she has no clue about. It's all very confusing for her. But as usual she is determined to get to the bottom of the mystery. And for once she isn't having to deal with Sheriff Adams. Instead she has the happy luck to be dealing with Captain Baker and she is disturbed that she finds him very charming.

Another fun and plot twist filled mystery from Lorna Barrett! I was really surprised at the end. I am sure you will be too! Check out "Bookplate Special" via Amazon!
