This story opens with Angelica's Cookbook is finally out and they are holding her launch book party and signing in her store, The Cookery. Tricia is looking leerily at the more than life size cutout standee of Angelica. It's too perky and giving Tricia the chills. But she is more worried about the fact other than her employees, no one has shown up for this launch and Angelica looks ready to have a meltdown. Even Angelica's friend, Bob Kelly isn't there and it's really got her upset. Tricia is told Bob was seen parked down Main Street and was visiting a fellow bookseller, Jim Roth, owner of History Repeats Itself. On her way there she hears a funny sound and suddenly she is knocked back to the pavement as Jim's store explodes, ejecting Bob Kelly onto the street with extreme force. Why do these things always happen around Tricia? And it is happening right before her birthday!
Of course this is just the start of the plot woes that plague Tricia throughout the book. Once again Lorna Barrett has the reader hanging in suspense while alternately sprinkling them with humor and angst with great aplomb. Secrets abound, lies are frequent and the misdirection's are placed with great care.
Time to dig in and enjoy the next installment in the Booktown Mysteries, "Chapter and Hearse"!
